METRICS INC. NAMED "BUSINESS CHAMPION" FOR EMPLOYEE DEVELOPMENT

GREENVILLE, N.C. – For the second straight year in honor of its workplace development programs, Metrics Inc. has been named a “Business Champion” by Business Leader magazine and Wake Technical Community College.

Business Champions is an annual awards program that honors Triangle–region companies that offer comprehensive workplace education and development efforts for their employees. Jerry Sakowski, vice president of business operations at Metrics, accepted the award at a luncheon today.

Headquartered in Greenville, N.C., Metrics is one of the fastest–growing contract pharmaceutical development laboratories in the United States. The company provides quality pharmaceutical formulation, clinical trial material (Phase I through Phase III) and commercial manufacturing, and analytical development/validation services to the pharmaceutical industry.

Currently, Metrics is completing an $18–million, 47,000–square–foot facility addition that will nearly double its analytical and manufacturing space. The expansion is taking place at Metrics’ existing 50,000–square–foot cGMP and GLP facility registered with and inspected by the FDA.

Jeff Basham, vice president of marketing and sales, said Metrics’ workplace development programs encourage employees to think creatively.

“Our staff has a patent pending for a controlled release technology, and another patent pending for unique formulations for diabetic patients,” Basham said. “These intellectual properties emerged when employees creatively sought solutions to our clients’ problems.”

On average, new Metrics employees spend their first three months immersed in training. Other employees spend about 12 days in training annually, representing a company investment of eight percent of its wages budget.
